Boca Prep Music Department
Welcome to the Music Department.  At Boca Prep, music classes begin with our youngest students in Pre K3.  Students from Pre K3 – Kindergarten are introduced to music through General Music Classes.  In these classes, students learn the elements of music through songs.  A variety of rhythm instruments are used, helping students to have a hands on experience with making music.
Students from PYP 1 through PYP 5, continue their music education by playing an Orchestral or Band instrument.  Students from PYP 1  and up are able to choose to play one of the following Orchestral instruments: Violin, Viola or Cello.  Students may choose to play the Bass beginning in the MYP program.  In this program students learn theory and music history and play their instrument of choice, from amongst the instruments listed above.
Students in PYP4 and higher, may choose to continue learning their Orchestral instrument, but now have the choice to learn a Band instrument.  The instruments that students may choose from are as follows: Flute, Clarinet, Alto-Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Percussion (which includes Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Glockenspiel, Triangle and Tambourine).
Students in the MYP program may continue their musical education through Clubs.  These Clubs include Ensemble, which is a class that can be joined by audition, and will offer more challenging music for our more advanced Orchestra players open to PYP3 and up.  This year, students who would like to continue with Band may join our MYP/HS Band Club.
Students from PYP2-HS may join the Glee Club, by audition.  Students may register for these classes at the beginning of the school year, and the classes will remain the same throughout the school year.
MYP 4-5:
Students in MYP 4 and 5 have the choice to continue their Fine Arts Music education during the school day.  This is a Band class, which continues from the MYP program, and students explore more challenging repertoire.  Students are able to add the following instruments to those from the PYP and early MYP years: Piccolo, Oboe, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, and Tuba.  Students also work on mini-projects, and continue to build on music theory and history.  This is also a performance class and students present a Winter and Spring Concert. Students also perform at the International Festival, School Open House Carnival and may work to receive community service hours by performing outside the school, at local venues such as Nursing Homes.
Private lessons are available after school hours (4:15-6:45) at Boca Prep.  Students may take instrumental lessons, learning from the following instruments: Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Oboe, Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Baritone Saxophones, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba and Snare Drum.  Tuition for lessons is $35 per half hour lesson.  Instruments and materials are not provided.  Space is limited and should be secured directly with Xiomara Orue at (561) 252-6768 or
